Frequently asked questions

  • What is mind Matters?
Mind Matters is a dedicated non-profit organization focused on prioritizing community well-being and catalyzing positive transformations. Through a multifaceted approach, Mind Matters conducts mental health literacy and advocacy programs, aiming to enhance awareness, reduce stigma, and improve accessibility to mental health services. Their initiatives include a Lay Counseling Program, providing training, mentoring, and low rate to free counselling sessions, as well as collaborations with other mental health organizations. Additionally, Mind Matters actively works to implement mental health programs in schools, addressing the unique challenges faced by school-going youth. Mind Matters is committed to creating a nurturing environment where individuals can thrive, promoting mental and emotional health for a fulfilling life.
  • How can I get help from Mind Matters?
Accessing our counselling services is simple. Just complete the online session request form or send an email to mindmattersnpo@gmail.com to request an appointment. Upon receipt, you will be promptly assigned to a lay counselor or added to the waiting list until a counselor becomes available.
  • Who will be helping me?
Once you've registered, we will pair you with an accessible lay counselor. We make an effort to consider your preferences regarding lay counselors whenever feasible. It's important to note that all our lay counselors undergo training and operate under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.
  • How much do sessions cost?
Mind Matters is committed to ensuring the accessibility of mental health services for everyone. We welcome small donations for sessions on a sliding scale, allowing clients to contribute to our organization. However, if clients are unable to support financially, all sessions are provided free of chatge.
  • I've requested a session. How long does it take to be allocated to a lay counselor?
The allocation of a lay counselor depends on the program's operational schedule, the availability of lay counselors, and the length of our waiting list. If you request a session during the period between counselling program seasons (currently running for 6 months a year, with plans to extend to a year-round program), the waiting period may be extended. However, typically, you can expect to be assigned to a lay counselor either immediately or within a few weeks at most, on average.
  • Is Mind Matters NPO involved in collaborations with corporate organizations?
Certainly, Mind Matters engages in partnerships with both non-profit organizations (NPOs) and corporate entities for mental health programs. Past collaborations include initiatives like anti-bullying campaigns with organizations like Sasko. We customize programs to align with the specific requirements of our collaborators. Additionally, we offer access to a network of psychologists available for hire at discounted rates through our organization, covering talks, workshops, and various mental health services.
